Profile
Peter J. Karol is a Partner at Abreu Karol, with over twenty years of experience counseling clients in intellectual property matters, as well as a Professor of Law at Suffolk University Law School. He is a leading legal scholar and commentator, particularly in the areas of trademark, copyright and art law. He makes regular radio appearances to discuss cutting-edge issues in intellectual property, ranging from the copyrightability of generative AI creations to trademarks in higher education, and contributes to top publications in his field. As a law professor, Peter has taught thousands of law students in the region over the past fifteen years, including trademark law, copyright law, law and the visual arts and real property. Experience
Peter has managed the international brand portfolios for numerous leading organizations—ranging from universities and wineries to sports equipment companies, financial institutions, and clean-energy firms. He has also represented art museums, galleries, art publications and contemporary artists. As a legal academic, Peter was formerly the Faculty Director of the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property, chaired the Art Law Committee for the Association of American Law Schools, and co-founded the annual Art Law Works in Progress Colloquium. He also has substantial experience representing clients in intellectual property litigation, including in federal court and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and serves as an expert witness in trademark and copyright matters. Peter sits on the board of November Magazine, a vanguard, online arts and entertainment publishing platform.
